Casa Surf is a “tranquilo” budget hostel with three double rooms and one large dorm room, sleeping 10 people in total (not including the 5 hammocks). The common area at the front is equipped with a bar, and is a perfect environment for sharing travel stories with new friends.

When the waves are down, or when it’s raining, we can easily be persuaded to bring out the “Big Screen” (roughly 17 inches) and put on a movie from our vast collection. Food is well-priced ($4-$6) but for those of you who really need to pinch colones, we have a guest kitchen in the back, and there is a small mercado 10 minutes up the road to buy basic ingredients.

The Casa Surf owners love a drink as much as the next guy, so fiestas are encouraged! When we meet people from all around the world, we can’t help but wonder what kind of drinking games they play! If you are musically inclined, there is a guitar available for sing-a-longs and live music, as well as a long table perfect for Flip-Cup and Beer-Pong.

If relaxing is more your style, grab a fruit smoothie, a book from our generous exchange and pick a hammock. Playa Avellanas is a haven for wildlife, so get your camera and go for a stroll down to the beach. Don’t forget your sunscreen! You may stay longer than you thought.
Food
Breakfast at Casa Surf is usually served after the surf session, consisting of Gallo Pinto con Huevos (rice and beans with eggs), banana/ mango pancakes or breakfast burritos- perfect fuel for a ravenous surfer- at only 2000 colones.
Dinners are delicious stir-frys, and hearty pastas, and the ingredients usually depend on how the fish are biting that day. Some examples are Mango Coconut Chicken Curray, Teriyaki Tuna Steaks and Spicy Italian Mahi-Mahi pasta. All dinners are 3000 colones and are made with the freshest Costa Rican veggies. Of course, fully vegetarian meals can also be arranged.
Our Furry Friends
If you love animals, Casa Surf is the perfect place for you! The hostel is also home to our two dogs, Kila and Osito, and Finn, the chillest cat you’ll ever meet. The pets are livin’ the Pura Vida life too, so don’t be surprised to see Kila lounging in a hammock, or Osito catching a few waves on our custom dog-board!
